Art n’ words by Rich Terdoslavich (C) 2025
Sunday night. Just typing on the iPad, earbuds on, listening to a podcast. Don’t know if it’ s raining in the city. Maybe later tonight. Who knows.
Putting the final touches on my newsletter, but switching it up a bit and working on this blog. In the newsletter, I wrote about an illustration job I did for a client. For this blog, I pick where I left off from the newsletter. Instead of writing about completing the illustration in Adobe Fresco, I’ll write about how it looked in the beginning.
So, here’s a snapshot of the same illustration in its raw form: acrylics and watercolors. Done on a backboard, you can see the rough texture of its surface maybe warm press, for lack of a better term. Easier, I think for the paint to bond with the tooth of the board, seeping into its textural makeup. You can see the imprints of the brush, the strokes creating a dry tone/texture on the layout. Didn’t water down the white paint for the clouds. Made an effort for the other colors-light blue, light green-to blend with the white. In the end, I liked it, but I knew that going digital was the key to complete the whole illustration. Push it further.
Gotta cut this short. I could go on and on, but want to get this out before the first day of April. Could ramble on, but want to get this under the wire. Working on a job for a client, so have been preoccupied with finishing this up and meet my deadline. Maybe revisit this and write it again, expand on what I wrote, dig deeper into the creative process. I’ll be writing some more stuff for next month. Talk to you soon!
